Hand in hand with all sorts of skills and talents which people have and which motivate them, there are numerous sports and leisure pursuits. Whether you compete individually, or as part of a team, whether its against the clock or in your own time, fundamental to you doing that sport or leisure activity is the will or drive to do it. We all like to see the underdog teams win, and pitching ourselves against the worlds best is enough motivation to satisfy the most ambitious of us. But competing isn’t the only motivator here. Being part of something, or belonging to something is also a factor. Equally completing a stage of training is some sense of achievement. It doesn’t have to result in a qualification either. Personal satisfaction is not to be understated when it comes to motivation.
Personally, I like things across the range. From competing individually with say tennis, squash, badminton, to rugby, football and cricket in team events. More armchair participant in those games nowadays.
However, I can say with some authority that having experience days out rates highly on my radar right about now. From snowboarding, indoor skydiving, to hovercraft racing, horse riding, fast cars etc, are all adrenalin ladened activities to name a few. You could always get your motivation from having a relaxed perspective too. Spa days, cooking and drinking, doing crosswords and Sudoku, all challenge us to do better and raise our game. Not to forget, more deep thinking forms of motivation too. Massages and meditation, and taking sabbaticals have a place here too.
